Bruno Marchand

Mayor
City of Quebec

Committed leader, Bruno Marchand was elected the 38th mayor of Québec City on November 7, 2021, after an election night that will be remembered in the history of municipal governance. He became the first mayor to have grown up in Québec’s Lower Town, an origin that has shaped his personal journey, his career, and his first term leading the City of Québec and the Québec Metropolitan Community.

Since taking office, Bruno Marchand has spoken to Quebecers with his usual frankness and determination to leave a better municipal environment for future generations. In fact, he was recognized as the 8th most influential person in Québec by L’Actualité magazine in 2024.

An avid athlete, known for his running shoes, he stops at nothing to make his city shine. Despite the hectic pace of his role, he continues to participate in several sporting challenges in Québec and beyond, even securing third place in the five events of the Pentathlon des Neiges, one of Québec’s flagship competitions.

Since September 2022, Bruno Marchand has held the key position of President of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), making him a unique ambassador for our culture and identity worldwide. To promote French as a language of cultural and economic exchange, he plays the important role of Vice President of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), alongside the Mayor of Paris.

With a background in social services, Bruno Marchand officially entered the mayoral race in April 2021, alongside candidates deeply rooted in their neighborhoods, under a new political banner. The Québec Forte et Fière team took shape and traveled with him across the city’s 21 electoral districts for nearly seven months.

Before this, he served as President and CEO of Centraide Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches and Bas-Saint-Laurent from 2014 to 2021. This was a natural continuation of his involvement since 2003 in building a social safety net that leaves no one behind. Always driven to help others, he also worked for the Québec Association for Suicide Prevention from 2008 to 2014.

Bruno Marchand has already announced his intention to seek a second term leading the municipal administration.
